Championship Dream Dead! If Parson's Green harboured any lingering thoughts of clinching their 4th Championship in 8 seasons, this result will have extinguished any of those flames of hope!
On a day where Parson's Green fell to their heaviest defeat in over 4 years, the commitment of the players was called into question for the first time.
No, not those players who dragged themselves out of bed on Sunday, to pull on the Parson's Green jersey, and take a trouncing at the hands of a middle-of-the-table team at Richarson Evans. But the attitude and commitment of those who couldn't be bothered to show up for the second week running!
Only 9 days ago, prior to the Dauntless Athletic game, Parson's Green were 2nd in the table and aiming for the top-spot. A dismal turnout for the Dauntless game dropped Parson's Green to 5th in the table... "Nevermind, only the 2nd league defeat of the season, we'll bounce back!" seemed to be the mood going into the game... Maybe we could bounce back, if we had a squad to choose from!
Perhaps the comfort of a warm bed is too much to resist on a Sunday morning? Perhaps the lure of copious amounts of alcohol on Saturday night is too difficult to refuse?
For the second week running, Parson's Green had a second-string outfit on the pitch, and was comprehensively outplayed, outfought and outthought by their hosts.
The title dream appears to have died now, and the attitude and commitment of the players who have not bothered to show up, is the reason for this, not those who have had to play out of position on Sunday. Parson's Green started the season with 20 players; this week, Chairman Bill Sheen had to make some hurried phonecalls at 09.30 on a Sunday morning to try to scrape together the bare 11.
The game passed Parson's Green by, who found themselves 3-0 down at the break, without ever really creating any chances.
The second half wasn't much better, but John Nugent did score a consolation goal with his head, from a sweet Danny Bartlett ball.
To be honest, had it not been for some woeful finishing by Nottingham Old Boys, the margin could have been wider, and Parson's Green staring at their heaviest ever defeat!!
Parson's Green ended the game with 10 men, as Goalkeeper Thomas Sheen had to go off after taking a blow to the head, which left him with a nasty looking cut above the eye. No substitutes meant that Parson's Green were unable to make a swap, and just had to plough on for the final 15 minutes with only 10 men.
Overall, there were no positives to take from the game other than the fact that we are able to see who is committed to trying to get success with Parson's Green, and those who do not give a toss!
Final Score: Nottingham Old Boys 6-1 Parson's Green
No Man-of-the-Match nomination this week!
